European Exchange (Erasmus)

Erasmus

At Glamorgan Business School, part of your undergraduate degree programme can also be studied in Europe.

The Erasmus (European Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) provides students with the opportunity to take part in a study exchange institutions throughout Europe such as:

  • France
  • Germany
  • Hungary
  • Netherlands
  • Portugal
  • Sweden

The programme has been running for more than 20 years and aims to provide students with experience of living and studying in a foreign country.

As undergraduates, the most common placement opportunity is for a full academic year (10 months). This can either replace an academic year of your course, or it can add to your course duration, depending on when you take your Erasmus year. As a rough guide, for a three year course, the following rules apply:

  • If you apply in the first year, and study abroad during your second year, you will still graduate after three years. This option is only available if you are already fluent in a foreign language (German, French, Dutch or Swedish).
  • If you apply in your second year, and study abroad placement in your third year, you will be required to study an additional final year at Glamorgan after your study year abroad is complete. This is known as the dual degree option, as you receive two degrees; one from Glamorgan, and one from your host institution abroad, This is the most common type of Erasmus exchange in the Business School, as this option is open regardless of language skills, as you can study third year modules through the medium of English during the year abroad.

If you are interested in studying abroad, you should get in touch with Dr Christopher Miller, as early as possible – ideally in the first term of the first academic year, so your options can be explained to you. The application process can be lengthy, and you will need to prepare adequately for the exchange if you decide to take part.
